
The investment industry is behind in terms of gender diversity and equity. In fact, only 13.2% of partners in U.S. VC firms are women, and only 15.2% in Canadian firms.
How do we solve this problem and why is it worth our efforts?
Well, those who make the funding decisions are still a largely male majority. And, whether it’s due to conscious or unconscious bias, men more consistently fund other men. This means women’s ideas often get overlooked even though female-founded startups statistically perform better!
This is why I started Passing the Mic, to hear what barriers women in investing faced when entering the industry or seeking funding and the challenges and wins they’ve encountered.
