Neal has endowed scholarship funds for students, assistant professors and athletes at the University of Washington, Willamette University, and Claremont McKenna College. A lover of the outdoors, Neal serves on the board of ACES, an environmental organization in Aspen, Colorado. He is also an Uplift Family Services board veteran, which recently merged with Pacific Clinics and is now California’s largest community-based nonprofit provider of high-quality behavioral health care, helping thousands of children and their family members recover from trauma, such as abuse, severe neglect, addiction, and poverty.
An adjunct professor at the University of Washington’s Foster School of Business, Neal teaches a CEO and Board Leadership and Governance class to MBA students. Neal and his wife, Jan, are proud recipients of the Gates Volunteer Service Award and have supported the University of Washington for over 40 years. Beyond the classroom, Neal has extensive experience working within the entrepreneurship environment, providing mentorship to budding entrepreneurs through Neal’s Running Start: an intensive program that brings entrepreneurs from around the world to Silicon Valley to learn from Neal and his network.
Neal is an active ally for encouraging more women into the investment community, partnering with the research initiative The Allyship, which aims to accelerate the current pace of social change and get at least 30% of women to make up the space in the investment industry. He has also led a podcast series on women in business.
