Roadmap to an IPO – Part 3

February 25, 2015 - Author: admin

Joe Spivens has decided to go public and has chosen his investment bankers.  In this episode, we’ll talk about how to put a valuation on the company and some of the guiding principals that determine the price of the stock when it goes public.  A good investment banker will be thoughtful and strategic about how to price the company so it appeals to the market from day one.  While this is a quick overview of how that conclusion is made, it will hopefully give you a sense of how the investment bankers approach the valuation price.

Roadmap to an IPO – Part 2

Hope you enjoyed last week’s episode where we talked about when a company is ready to go public.  This week, we’ll talk about investment bankers.

You cannot go public without investment bankers underwriting the process.  They are an absolute must.  In this video, I’ve taken a lighthearted approach to choosing your investment bankers, but understand that there are many factors to consider when choosing which firm is right for you.  You want to pick a firm that is savvy enough to see the long-term strategy of pricing the stock.  That’s more than I can cover in a 2 minute video, so we’ll focus on some quick, fun tips.  When you’re ready to go public, your current investors will most likely have strong opinions on which firm is right for you, and they’ll offer some good guidance, I’m sure.

For now, here’s a fun look in Episode 2:

Roadmap to an IPO, part 1

February 9, 2015 - Author: admin

As most of you know, I enjoy working with entrepreneurs and guiding them on their journey.  One of the most common questions I get is about the initial public offering (IPO) process.  To many, it’s a mysterious event that only a select few really understand.

In reality, the going public is complicated, but there are some steps that anyone can understand.  I’ve put together a six episode series to de-mystify the roadmap to an IPO.  The series takes a high-level, easy to understand approach and it’s very light-hearted.  By no means is this a college-level course but it’s hopefully a fun way to wrap your head around what to expect.

In the series, I’ll be taking a fake company, Spivens, Inc. through a public offering.  We’ll see what successes and challenges the CEO, Joe Spivens, and his CFO, Sally Hyde, encounter along the way.  I hope you enjoy, and maybe we’ll dive into related subjects in another series.
